Big UCB News from Angel Yau!

DEL CLOSE MARATHON
by Angel Yau
So the Del Close Marathon is 72 hours of improv straight (with a 30 minute cleaning
break every few hours or so, over 150 shows for the weekend) mostly at the UCB
Theatre
although they also rented other stages nearby. It started
Friday at 4pm with the UCB Press Conference (Matt Besser, Matt Walsh
and Ian Roberts) and the big news they shared was that they
have a new space opening called UCB EAST! It's a 150
seat theater (a bit smaller than the current UCB). They are planning to open
the new theatre in late 2011... It's going to be at 3rd and Avenue A.

The current UCB Theatre will continue to operate as its main stage for improv and of course ASSSCAT.
They said, "[UCB East is] going to have all different kinds of comedy.
The same way this will be heavily improv, that will be heavily standup. You
will be able to do things that you can't do in a club in the Midwest."
And this place will also be fully equipped with a bar.

I wasn't there for all 72 hours but I was there every day videotaping most of the live shows. There
were definitely dedicated fans. The Theatre was constantly packed no matter
what time of day it was. One of the final shows on Sunday was Walsh and Roberts
making grilled cheese sandwiches for the audience because they knew everyone was hungry.

It was definitely fun and I got to see most of my LA UCB friends again.
Here are some highlights
already posted up at http://ucbcomedy.com
(as you can see I was part of the crew)

Lisa getting ready for the big beauty pageant

Lisa was just writing to me online from the beauty parlor, giving me a verbal preview of what is to come. Apparently her hair is now the hair of a superstar or superhero, from the way she described it. All of us in the States have to just wait though to see it. I'm incredibly jealous of everyone in Dublin right now. If you love Lisa Peters and you're in Dublin, go to Lillie's Bordello (a classy place even with that name, haha) tomorrow (Thursday) night for the MIss Hotspots competition. Apparently there will be TV celebrities there (famous in Ireland at least) and it should be a really big deal.

Lisa, people all over the world are rooting you on! So you have worldwide permission to go ahead and be great!

Lisa Marie

The professional photos aren't back yet, here's a shot from Lisa's laptop. We were inspired and moved by Lynne Margulies' decision to get married in Ireland. Sorry we didn't invite you guys, Lisa and I are so private. Lynne has emailed me her approval, which for us counts practically as much as a blessing.

Mind Control Boy

I sketched this idea one day in the forest and today I was "inking" it with the wacom tablet. I showed it to Lisa-- it's an idea I like but I have no idea what to do with it or what audience it would be for. It's a kid with absolute mind control powers but only over adults. And SOME kids-- the ones who have sold out already and may as well be adults. Lisa surprised me by saying she liked it. I asked her, "What do you see this as?"

She said she saw it as a "kids programme" (I love her European spelling) -- kind of like Sabrina the Teenage Witch! "Also it could be a bit deeper than that and reveal how the human mind works!!!"

And I thought... I thought... hey! That's actually a pretty good idea for a pitch probably, isn't it? I'd watch that show! haha wait I'm not the target demo.

Maybe Lisa should be my manager!

How does one un-follow blogs one is following? All rather annoying.

Tonight Jason asked me why I was afraid to go on Facebook. I told him I had to unfriend a girl I love who hates me, a friend of his wife.

He laughed and said, "Love is a multi-pronged utensil."

I haven't written here since my Kitka died. I went home from taping the first Jessica's Chest and she died within hours suddenly at the age of 4. Lisa Peters wrote me an email, telling me that now Kitka was in Heaven watching over me and protecting me.

Today Lisa told youtube to take down my films that she is in, claiming copyright of my films that she appeared in eagerly and cooperated with promoting on youtube. Jason said oh that's just big business, I said it wasn't the record company doing it, it was Lisa.

Say it again:
"Love is a multi-pronged utensil."

Lisa wins again

Lisa always gets her way.GUEST BLOGGER: Lisa Peters
Hey so this is Lisa Peters from Ireland. :)
Do you remember me? Does it ring a bell somewhere? Somehow?

You might be thinking why the hell is she doing the mailer seen as I'm already back home in Ireland. Well let me exaplin!!

I had been doing some thinking lately. And I was thinking that now seems like a fitting time to put some new material back out on YouTube. Then I remembered how Peter Bernard had helped with the publicity for my videos. And they were pretty successful thankfully. And I realised how I would need the help of Peter again. Hopefully to re create some magic. Peter discovered Amy Poehler, so I know for a fact that he does has a good eye for talent. Peter wanted to work with me from the begining when noone else did. When I was just starting out. Posting (wow the most hidious) videos on youtube ever! lol (Thank god those videos are long gone!!) I have to laugh looking back. But what Im saying is. Peter believed in me when I was a nobody. (I still kinda am.. but we'll bypass that fact! lol) So I would be thankful to Peter as a friend and I would also consider him as one of the best underground publicists and talent discoverers.

So then I asked Peter what would he want in return for him doing the publicity. And guess what... Here I am... Back on the 2amshow. For one final season. To be honest, I did'nt see myself coming back to host another season. I really did'nt. But Im excited about it. And apparently I will be hosting Dublin entertainers ect. So thats kinda cool! I guess things have a funny way of working out in the end! And you really do not know how things will go from one day to the next! Well now me and Peter have another chance to work with each other! So lets keep it coolio!!

EVERYONE REJOICE TO THE NEWS THAT PB IS COOL! lol

Now I am a TV star in New York again, so NO PHOTOS PLEASE!!!

Im eating pizza now at 1am.. my rockstar lifestyle lol and ive college in the morning.. so wow. . I really better head to bed soon!

More from me soon :)

The Dilemma of Distribution

ABOVE: Kyoko a Go-Go voiced by Angel Yau
I've been developing a new series of animated shorts for a while that I intended to put on YouTube, but it's been delayed for various reasons, all related to distribution. I had started a new YT channel for them and put one little intro cartoon on there.
ABOVE: Cherry Cheerleader voiced by Ashly Covington
I remember John Kricfalusi writing something once about how if it has 'toon' in the title, it's probably not a real cartoon. I thought I HAVE to use 'toon' in the title of these because they're actually puppet movies that just sort of look a little like cartoons. It's way more like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Meets Archie Comics Meets Boody Rogers" than anything else I could compare it to. These are named Cougartoons after one of the characters who hasn't even appeared in a cartoon yet. It'll take a few films before people will be able to really see what the concept is of this series, and I expect the fan base to build slowly at first because of that.
ABOVE: Nerdy McBrain from Cougartoons
I applied for partner status for the Cougartoons channel so that I could put ads on the videos and make a little money off of all the effort. YT never responded to me about it-- they didn't say yes or no, they just never wrote back. I already have other partner channels though, so I figured I should move the new series over to one of them.
Re-enter Me Singing 418, a female Tony Clifton who can actually sing played by Lisa Peters from Ireland, the star of my local TV show. The Me Singing 418 channel on YT IS a partner channel, and we're wasting it with only one cartoon on the entire channel. Me418 is the same age (teenage) and class (rich) as the majority of the characters in Cougartoons, so I figured she goes to their school and she can be in some of the stories, and that should be enough justification for moving Cougartoons to her channel. Lisa's already recorded some new lines for the character and basically my work is now cut out for me.
